The general form of the stamp duty computation is:

STAMPABLE AMOUNT x RATE OF DUTY

    Less RELIEF

= STAMP DUTY

When computing the stamp duty on a document or transaction, it is always best to check initially that it is liable to stamp duty, i.e., that it is not exempt.
